2018 SUMMER CAMP LOTTERY REGISTRATION

Entries for the Summer Camp lottery drawing will be accepted beginning March 6 through March 16 at 5 pm. Registration is not on a first-come, first-served basis. Names are drawn at random, so all St. Johns County children entered have an equal chance at participation. The drawing will be held on March 26. You do not need to be present. INTRODUCTION TO FLORIDA-FRIENDLY LANDSCAPING™

Details: St. Johns County Parks and Recreation has partnered with UF/IFAS Extension St. Johns County for a lecture on Florida-Friendly Landscaping. Florida-Friendly Landscaping™ (FFL) means using low-maintenance plants and environmentally sustainable practices. Learn how you can have a beautiful landscape that could save you time, energy, and money while protecting our future. TROUT CREEK WATERWAY CLEANUP
When: Friday, February 16
Where: Trout Creek, 6795 Collier Road, Orangedale

Details: St. Johns County Parks and Recreation and Solid Waste have partnered to clean Trout Creek. Anyone interested in joining the cleanup effort may bring their own kayak or use a county kayak. FITNESS IN THE PARK
When: Wednesdays, February 21 – March 28
Time: 1:30 – 2:30 pm & 2:30 – 3:30 pm
Where: Canopy Shores Park, 800 Christina Dr., St. Augustine
Details: St. Johns County Parks and Recreation has teamed up with the University of St. Augustine to provide adult fitness in the park. This is a six-week program designed for individuals ages 60 and up. The first session, 1:30 – 2:30 pm, is geared toward seniors with diabetes or that are pre-diabetic. The second session, 2:30 – 3:30 pm, is for all seniors looking to improve their overall physical health. To register, click here. OWL AND SUNSET SYMPHONY

Details: Parks and Recreation has partnered with the Stetson Kennedy Foundation for a sunset owl talk. Enjoy the sunset at Beluthahatchee while learning about its unique history with nature’s evening symphony. If you’re lucky, the local owls will join in. HISTORIC SWITZERLAND DEDICATION 
When: Saturday, February 24
Time: 10:00 am – 1:00 pm
Details: St. Johns County and the Stetson Kennedy Foundation have partnered for a Historical Landmark dedication recognizing the Bennett Farmhouse, Hartley Store, and Beluthahatchee. At 10 am, attendees will gather at the Bennett House located by the St. Johns River at Alpine Groves Park for the dedication of all three historic properties. Attendees are encouraged to visit the Hartley Store and Beluthahatchee at the conclusion of dedication. FREE APLINE GROVES KAYAK TRIP
When: March 1, 2, 3, 4, 16, 17, & 18
Time: 10:00 am – 1:00 pm
Details: Participants will get to explore the east side of the St. Johns River while learning about local history, importance of the St. Johns River, and local flora and fauna. ACA KAYAK QUICKSTART COURSE

When: Saturday, March 11 & Thursday, March 22

Time: 9 am – 5 pm
Where: Trout Creek Park, 6795 Collier Road, St. Augustine, FL 32092
Details: This course will focus on the fundamentals of kayaking including kayak designs, trip planning, and water safety. Participants will have the opportunity to learn and practice basic paddle strokes and rescue techniques. The course will be led by two Level 2 Certified ACA instructors.

WALK THROUGH TIME

Details: St. Johns County Parks and Recreation has partnered with the county Cultural Resource Coordinator to offer a new exciting program on the history of Butler Beach. CHILDREN’S SHOREBIRD NESTING
When: Saturday, March 10th

Where: Nease Beachfront Park, 3171 Coastal Highway, Vilano
Details: St. Johns County Parks and Recreation has partnered with St. Johns County Audubon to offer a FREE Children’s Shorebird Nesting Program. This program is for children third grade and up. Participants will learn about the unique birds that nest along our beaches. In addition, children will participate in activities that mirror what the real bird biologists do to protect our local nesting sites. To register, click here. 2018 ST. JOHNS COUNTY BEACH DRIVING PASSES ON SALE NOW
St. Johns County resident passes are $50, non-resident passes are $100, and handicap passes are $40. Passes will be available through February 28. RENOURISHMENT PROJECT
The St. Augustine Beach Pope Road beach access point will be closed beginning Monday, November 27 due to an Army Corps of Engineers beach renourishment project, which is scheduled to be completed in spring. This project will renourish critically-eroded shoreline between Anastasia State Park and 8th Street in St. Augustine Beach. The beach will remain open outside of work areas, however, residents and visitors are encouraged to exercise caution when visiting during this time.
MICKLER’S BEACHFRONT PARK CLOSED WEEKDAYS THROUGH MARCH 1
Mickler’s Landing Beachfront Park will be closed Monday through Friday through March 1 while the site is utilized as a staging area for beach restoration. The closure includes the parking lot, beach access, and all related facilities. The park will remain open on Saturdays and Sundays. Please exercise caution as heavy equipment will be in-use on the beach. For information on County beach access points, visit www.sjcfl.us/beaches. BASKETBALL REGISTRATION
March Madness Youth Basketball is back in 2018! Parks & Recreation youth basketball league tips off another exciting season for athletes’ ages 9 to 14. Practices and games will take place at the Solomon Calhoun Community Center, 1300 Duval St., and Ketterlinus Gymnasium, 60 Orange St. Game schedules will be finalized in February. All games are played on Saturday mornings or afternoons, and practices are scheduled by individual coaches. Registration is open until February 8. We are also looking for volunteer coaches. Must be 18 or older. St. Johns County requires that all coaches pass our background check before working with youth. INDOOR VOLLEYBALL 

Come out for some healthy competition this winter! Courts will be open for pick-up games Tuesdays and Thursdays, 6:30 – 8:30 pmJanuary 9 through February 8 at Ketterlinus Gym, 60 Orange St., St. Augustine. Come and join us for our spring season of the St. Johns County Parks and Recreation Adult Softball league. Our programs offer an excellent recreational opportunity for adults ages 18 years and older in two locations. Games are played five nights a week, different Leagues play on specific nights, games start at 7pm. Parks & Rec emphasis recreational play with healthy competition and fun, family atmosphere. St. Johns Golf Club

VALENTINE’S DAY TOURNAMENT
Tee off at our Couples’ Valentine’s Day Tournament at St. Johns Golf Club, 4900 Cypress Links Blvd, Elkton, on Sunday, February 11 with shotgun at 8:30 am. The format of play will be net better ball of partners on holes 1 through 9, and a two-person scramble on holes 10 through 18.
