Looking for a souvenir to bring home as a way to remember celebrating St. Augustine’s 450th year? Keepsakes of all kinds are available at the St. Augustine Visitor Information Center, 10 W. Castillo Drive, next to the Historic Downtown Parking Facility (garage) in downtown St. Augustine.
The official Celebrate 450! poster is ready to frame, along with a half dozen T-shirt designs, baseball caps, books, postcards, magnets, shot glasses, wine glasses, beer mugs, Christmas ornaments, small back packs, yard flags, and so much more!
My favorite small trinket is the tiny $1 button badge (pinback) that reads “Party Like It’s 1565.” A fun T-shirt is the one that reads “Older Than Dirt — Genuine American Antique — Established 1565.” Then there’s the black or pink tees with “St. Augustine 450th Anniversary” embellished completely in rhinestones — quite a bit of 450th bling!
Another beautiful option is the locally designed 450th poster and T-shirt featuring a lion statue and the St. Augustine Lighthouse by batik artist Wendy Tatter.
For a more unusual item, choose from a variety of chipped bricks, dating back to 100 years ago, that were used in St. Augustine’s streets. The streets were recently renovated, so now the pieces of history can be purchased for only $9.95.
Visitors Center hours are 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. seven days a week. Extended 450th hours are 8:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 4; and 8:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 5.
