April 20-23: Inaugural Taste Academy to offer culinary courses at area venues

EPIC Behavioral Healthcare, coordinators of the premier food festival Taste of St. Augustine, announces the inaugural Taste Academy, taking place the week of “The Taste.” Starting April 20, the Taste Academy will offer a variety of educational opportunities for participants to learn more about local food sources, how to prepare foods, the culinary history of St. Augustine and about local food trends.

The courses will take place at various sites throughout the county as well as during the Taste of St. Augustine. The Taste Academy will allow participants to experience St. Augustine’s cuisine and culture together.  All participants will receive free admission to “The Taste”.

Courses include:

 Wednesday, April 20

“Pop Art” at the Hyppo Café at 10:00 am

“Story of Paella” at the Taberna del Caballo at the Colonial Quarter at 12:00 noon

“Pasta ala Fresca” at Terra & Acqua at 6:00 pm

Thursday, April 21

“Edible Art” at Crème de la Cocoa at 10:00 am

“Florida Shrimp & Pickles” at Preserved at 12:00 noon

“A Taste of (St. Augustine Wine) History” at the San Sebastian Winery at 5:00 pm

Friday, April 22

“Coffee Cupping” at DOS Coffee at 10:00 am

“Botanical Cocktails” with bartenders from Odd Birds at Southern Horticulture at 6:00 pm

“Spanish Feast” at the Colonial Oaks at the Colonial Quarter at 7:30 pm

Saturday, April 23

“The Academy Culmination” at the St. Augustine Amphitheatre at 11:30am

For course descriptions and to purchase tickets, go to www.epicbh.org. The Taste Academy ends at the ever popular Taste of St. Augustine, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, April 23 at the St. Augustine Amphitheatre.

Over 25 of St. Augustine’s finest restaurants will be offering samples of signature dishes along with a live music festival.  Admission  is $5, and food and beverage tickets cost $1 each, with most ‘tastes’ somewhere between 2-5 tickets. Free parking and children under 11 receive free admission.

Proceeds from both events will benefit EPIC Behavioral Healthcare, a nonprofit serving St. Johns County families since 1973.
