From Limelight Theatre
St. Augustine, FL — Set in the 1980s, Beyond Therapy focuses on Prudence and Bruce, two Manhattanites seeking stable romantic relationships with the help of their psychiatrists, each of whom suggests they place a personal ad. Their first meeting is disastrous and the two report back to their respective therapists – who are clearly more troubled than their patients!
The comedy runs Aug. 7-30 in the Koger-Gamache Studio Theatre, a 75-seat black box space at Limelight Theatre, 11 Old Mission Ave., uptown St. Augustine. This play contains adult language and content.
Directed by Joe Kemper, the cast includes Caroline Brady as Prudence; Marc Anthony Toro as Bruce; James “Dez†Desmond as Bob; Jim Cadigan as Stuart; Jessica Ferris at Charlotte; and Alex Metrakos as Andrew.
Bruce and Prudence are deeply into therapy. Prudence’s macho therapist is urging her to be more assertive while Bruce’s wacky female therapist wants him to meet women by placing a personal ad. She does not fully comprehend that Bruce has a male lover who is not pleased by Bruce’s desire to date a woman: Prudence. Bruce doesn’t know how to handle poor nervous Prudence and Prudence doesn’t know what to make of her unpredictable new boyfriend. They do learn to live beyond therapy in this delightful Off Broadway hit by Christopher Durang that moved successfully to Broadway.
