Council on Aging would like to honor our community centenarians and nonagenarians at the annual Centenarian Luncheon scheduled for Thursday, May 5 at noon at River House, 179 Marine St.

The Centenarian Luncheon is sponsored by Ameris Bank and St. Johns Food Services. Table sponsorships are available for $200and include two seats at your table for the luncheon along with a variety of special recognitions.

If you or someone you want to honor is age 95 or over, please contact us to participate in this very special celebration of our community’s treasured senior citizens.

Legally Speaking Lecture Series: Attorney Megan Wall will present a lecture entitled “Is Probate a Dirty Word” on Friday, May 13, 10:00–11:00 a.m., at River House, 179 Marine Street. Attorney Megan Wall sees clients privately by appointment at River House.  Clients must make an appointment by calling Legal Aid at 904-827-9921.


Wine Appreciation Class: River House, 179 Marine Street, will be offering a Wine Journey facilitated by consultant, steward and broker Walter Bost. This 6-week session is perfect for anyone who wants to explore the world of wine. Begins Tuesday, May 17, from 4:00-5:30 p.m. Registrations now being taken.  Cost to River House members is $50, and $60 to non-members. Dinner and a Movie: Join us at River House, 179 Marine Street on Thursday, May 19th, from 4:30-7:30pm for the showing of “The Intern”. Starting a new job can be a difficult challenge, especially if you’re already retired. Looking to get back into the game, 70-year-old widower Ben Whittaker (Robert De Niro) becomes a senior intern at an online fashion site. See what happens! Cost is $13 for River House Activity Members and $16 for Non-members. Price includes movie, dinner, a soft drink and popcorn.  Beer and wine are available. River House Dancers Present “Spring Fling” May 19: All the River House dance classes join together for this wonderful review of talent and dance styles. Memorial Day Event at River House: Friday, May 27, from 9:30-10:00 a.m. will be a special time at River House, 179 Marine Street, as The Council on Aging and Vitas Hospice will honor veterans of the U.S. military. A complimentary brunch will follow for all veterans who pre-register to attend. Reservations are requested by May 20, and there will be a $7.00 charge for anyone who is not a veteran that will be attending the brunch.  Please call 209-3655 to RSVP.  This event is open to the public and we look forward to recognizing the veterans in our community.
