Special programs are planned around the county as the Council on Aging sponsors November events.


Honoring Veterans Nov. 10; The Council on Aging and Vitas Hospice will honor the veterans in our area who have served in the U.S. Armed Forces Nov. 10, with a ceremony beginning at 9:30 a.m., at River House, 179 Marine Street, followed by a brunch. Brigadier General Michael Fleming, Ret., will be guest speaker. Reservations are required for the brunch (complimentary to all veterans and $6 for all others). Call 209-3655 to RSVP.

Members Only Party: The “Members Only Party” at River House, 179 Marine Street, will be coming up in November. Be sure your dues are current!  This is a catered event with a great band held twice yearly and is a perk offered to River House members.  Not a member?  We invite you to visit River House for a tour and learn all the opportunities available to seniors.  For more information, please call 209-3655.

iPhone Classes- New: Bi-weekly iPhone classes will be offered at River House, 179 Marine Street, on Tuesdays from 2-3 pm. with a new topic each class. Advance registration requested by calling 209-3655.  Cost to River House Activity Members is $8 per class and $10 per class for non-members.

Vendors for River House Christmas Extravaganza: Get ready for the annual River House Christmas Arts & Crafts Extravaganza Dec. 3, 11a.m.-7p.m. Also featured will be food from the River House Café. Free confidential memory screening.

While a screening result is not a diagnosis, scoring below the normal threshold can signal whether an individual should seek a thorough evaluation from his physician.

Tuesday afternoon Bingo for cash is seeking 3 volunteers. A Cashier, assistant Cashier and Runner are needed. Responsibilities for Cashiers include selling of Bingo tickets, distribution of weekly Bingo sheets and keeping record of purchases. MEMORY ENHANCEMENT: Volunteers are needed to assist in our Memory Enhancement Program on Mondays and Wednesdays at our Shores location.  Time is from 8:30 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.  Duties include assisting the staff with activities, making coffee and general attentiveness toward the needs of the client.
