St. Augustine, FL – The St. Augustine Regional Council (StAR) is hosting a chalking workshop from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, March 28 at Limelight Theatre, 11 Old Mission Avenue, uptown St. Augustine.

An indoor demonstration will be from 9 to 10 a.m., with outdoor instruction on the sidewalks to follow.

Artists of all genres are invited to participate in this annual event conducted by nationally known chalking instructors.

This year’s workshop is being led by Lee Jones, Orlando Chalk Artist and one of the featured artists  participating in the 2015 Chalk Walk event to be held May 1-3 in St. Augustine.

The workshop is FREE and open to those registered by March 25. All ages are welcome. Participants under 18 must be registered by an adult.  Call 904-315-3963, email or go to

Lee will offer a mix of classroom learning and hands on chalking techniques to interested participants. She has participated in festivals  across the U.S. and at Downtown Disney in Orlando.

The St. Augustine Chalk Walk is a free annual event that will take place on the sidewalks located between the Historic Downtown Parking Garage and the Visitors Information Center.

More than 60 high school, college, art educators and career chalk artists will create a gallery of themed art.

The theme of the 2015 event is  “Happy Birthday St. Augustine” in recognition of the city’s 450th anniversary.

The European art form of street painting dates back to the 1500s. Street painting in the United States became popular in the 1980’s and continues to expand with events held today in many cities.

Through chalking, artists will illustrate St. Augustine’s rich historical tapestry .

StAR Council is the host for the annual St. Augustine Chalk Walk, now in its 3rd year, which draws over 10,000 visitors to the area.

Quarterly the group supports Home Again St. Johns in their Dining with Dignity Program; and each fall host a Bratini event whose proceeds aid cancer victims. The St. Augustine Regional Council is dedicated to improving our area and promoting it to individuals outside of the region.
