FREE Maritime Heritage Family Fun Day June 22

The Second Annual Maritime Heritage Family Fun Day will be held from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday, June 22 at the historic waterfront of the Fountain of Youth Archaeological Park, 11 Magnolia Ave., St Augustine.

Families can enjoy model boat building and racing, shipwreck artifacts, youth sailboat rigging, maritime and nature demonstrations, fun exhibits, hands-on activities, knot tying, tug’o’war and other fun games, storytelling, prizes, Timucuan Interpretive History, Arquebus demonstrations, cannon firing, an air-conditioned planetarium, informative exhibits, and more.

“Bubba”burgers, hot dogs, chips and drinks will be available for purchase.

You can also meet our volunteer boat builders as they busily bring a sixteenth century replica boat (called a chalupa) and boatyard to life. This boat was used by the sailors to navigate the St. Augustine Inlet from offshore in the 1500s. Find out what it was like 450 years ago to sail these incredible boats that landed on the shores of St. Augustine.
