Diane Mahoney was the recipient of the Haven Hospice Outstanding Volunteer of the Year Award for the St. Augustine service area during the recent volunteer appreciation luncheon and awards event at the Haven Hospice St. Augustine Community Room.

Mahoney has been volunteering with Haven for six years. Prior to joining Haven, she worked for over 42 years as a psychiatric nurse. “Even though I have retired, I am still a nurse and always will be. I like to be around nurses and nurse’s aides and I felt like Haven was a company I wanted to be involved with,” said Mahoney of her decision to volunteer with Haven. “Haven’s belief statement that every day is a gift really resonates with me. I’ve adopted it as one of my own personal belief statements.”

“Diane always goes above and beyond with her service and dedication to Haven,” said St. Augustine Volunteer Coordinator Michelle Colee.  “She fills many roles with Haven. She can be found at the front desk answering phones, visiting patients wherever they call home, or calling patients and their caregivers to ensure they have all the supplies they need. Diane is such a joy to work with. We are so lucky to have her.”

Volunteers are a vital member of the Haven Care Team. They provide companionship, support and assistance to patients residing at home, in assisted living facilities, nursing homes and hospitals. They also reach out to grieving families, assist with administrative tasks, help staff the Attic Resale Store and serve on special event committees.  Haven is proud to have more than 700 community members dedicating their time and talents to patients and families in 18-counties across North Florida.  If you would like more information about volunteering in St. Augustine, please contact Volunteer Coordinator Michelle Colee at 904.810.2377.
