From Saint Augustine Ballet
Tap dancing pirates, beautiful mermaids, a revenge filled crocodile, a one handed pirate, and a mischievous boy who doesn’t want to grow up will all be on the Lewis Auditorium stage when Saint Augustine Ballet presents an encore of last year’s performances of Peter Pan.Â
The show will be performed on at 2 and 7:30 p.m. Saturday, May 14, and 2 p.m. Sunday, May 15 in Lewis Auditorium, 14 Granada Street, downtown St. Augustine.
Returning in the role of Peter Pan will be Daet Rodriguez. Rodriguez trained at the prestigious National Ballet School of Cuba in Havana and later danced with Cuba’s Ballet de Camaguey, and the Teatro Centro de Arte-Leon Febres Cordero in Ecuador. Rodriguez is the Artistic Director of Georgia Ballet.
Local celebrity pirate, Captain William Mayhem, will reprise his inimitable role as Captain Hook. Known as the Pirate Magician of Saint Augustine, Captain Mayhem is an experienced Las Vegas entertainer and Pirate Magician in residence at the Saint Augustine Pirate Museum.
The ballet is based on the story by J.M. Barre and follows the Darling children’s adventures in Neverland, the home of Peter Pan and the Lost Children. Saint Augustine Ballet premiered Peter Pan in the spring of 2015 to rave reviews and decided to bring it back to the stage for another run.
Audience members are encouraged to come dressed as Pirates or a favorite character from the story. It is also suggested that they bring a jar of Peter Pan Peanut Butter to donate to a food drive that Saint Augustine Ballet is holding for the St. Francis House Food Pantry.
