Symphonic Triptych’ on stage at Lightner Musem and in Nocatee
Fall is the start of concert season and the St. Augustine Orchestra (SAO) will kick off its 57th season with two performances of ‘Symphonic Triptych’ on October 12th and 13th.
The October 12th concert will be held at the Lightner Museum at 8 p.m. The October 13th afternoon concert is a first for the SOA: its first public performance in Nocatee at John Paul II Catholic Church, to reach other areas of St. Johns County. Other new initiatives include the SAO joining forces with The St. Augustine Community Chorus to hold two joint concerts next spring and performing as part of the Romanza Festivale. GET TICKETS HERE
A triptych is a set of three associated musical, literary or artistic works intended to be appreciated together. Maestro Scott Gregg has chosen three European and Scandinavian composers of the Romantic and Victorian era including Antonin Dvorak, Gioachino Rossini and Jean Sibelius. The Orchestra will play Dvorak’s Symphony #8 in G Major; Simiramide Overture by Rossini and Valse Triste by Sibelius.
“Two of the pieces selected are ones that the composers wrote later in their careers,” said Maestro Gregg, adding that “the Dvorak Symphony was his second-last and Simiramide was Rossini’s last Italian Opera.”
Valse Triste was written earlier in Sibelius’ career, but is considered one of the signature compositions of Finland’s greatest composer.
“We have a wonderfully rich arts culture in St. Augustine, and we are pleased to be one of the anchors of it and able to highlight the talented musicians that live in St. Augustine and surrounding areas,” said Mitch Kolesaire, Chair of the Board of Directors of the SAO. He noted that the Orchestra has added three new players this year on flute, violin and percussions.
The SAO sold out most concerts in advance of their performances last season, so the public is encouraged to purchase tickets early. Tickets for the two Symphonic Triptych performances, as well as its December Holiday Concert and others are available at: https://staugustineorchestra.ticketleap.com/.
Ticket prices are $22 for adults age 18 and older; $12 for youth 11 – 17 years old, and free for children 10 and under.
