Saint Augustine Ballet announces guest artists for 2015 Nutcracker (tickets on sale!)

Artistic Director of Saint Augustine Ballet, Luis Abella, has announced the guest artists for their seventh annual production of the holiday favorite, The Nutcracker, on stage Dec. 19-20 at Flagler College.

Arionel Vargas

Arionel Vargas, former Principal dancer with the English National Ballet and international dance film star, will partner with Marize Fumero, international guest dancer and member of the Milwaukee Ballet, to perform the principal roles of the Cavalier and Sugar Plum Fairy.

Vargas and Fumero were both born in Cuba and trained at the prestigious National Ballet School of Cuba in Havana. Vargas joined the English National Ballet as a Principal in 2004 where he danced both Lescaut and Des Grieux in Kenneth MacMillan’s Manon. He won gold medals in Brazil’s 2004 International Ballet Competition and the 1996 New York International Ballet Competition. Vargas also stars in the motion picture, Love Tomorrow, written and directed by Christopher Payne.

Fumero joined the English National Ballet in 2012 and and the Milwaukee Ballet Company in 2014 where she has performed roles including  The Nutcracker, and Michael Pink’s Giselle and Cinderella.

Joining Vargas and Fumero onstage will be Orlando Molina, School Principal of the Georgia Ballet, in the role of Drosselmeyer, and Daet Rodriguez, Artistic Director of the Georgia Ballet in the role of Snow King. Rodriguez and Molina are also graduates of the National Ballet School of Cuba. Molina and Daet performed around the world as principal dancers before settling in the United States to teach and perform.

Saint Augustine Ballet’s production of The Nutcracker is a spectacular and  magical holiday show that features mischievous mice, dancing dolls, sparkling snowflakes, elegant costumes, custom-designed scenery, and skillful athletic dancing that will charm the entire family. The multi-generation cast is comprised of student and professional dancers as well as several well-known local celebrities including two past Mayors of St. Augustine.

This holiday favorite will be performed at 2 and 7:03 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 19 and Sunday, Dec. 20 in Lewis Auditorium at Flagler College, 14 Granada St., downtown St. Augustine. Tickets are $25 to $30, with a $5 discount for seniors 65 years and older, and for students 12 years and younger. Tickets for The Nutcracker are now on sale at www.saintaugustineballet.com.
