Ponte Vedra Beach, FL — The Ponte Vedra Concert Hall, in partnership with Flying Saucer Presents, presents husband and wife duo, Shovels & Rope, with special guest Caroline Rose on Tuesday, Jan. 20, 2015. Tickets go on sale to the public at 10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 24 .

Mississippi-born, Nashville-bred Cary Ann Hearst and Texas-born, Colorado-raised Michael Trent forged singular paths as solo artists before connecting – both musically and personally – in Charleston, South Carolina and forming Shovels & Rope.

While they’d both had burgeoning solo careers (Cary Ann earned kudos for her 2006 album Dust and Bones, Michael with his band, The Films, as well as his own solo outings), they quickly found that both their voices – which entwine with eerie beauty in their haunting harmonies – and philosophies matched up perfectly, and a beautiful partnership was born. Channeling country, bluegrass, and blues through an indie rock prism, Shovels & Rope deliver an energetic, passionate and hypnotic sound unduplicated in today’s musical landscape.

Shovels & Rope’s 2012 breakthrough debut, O’ Be Joyful, received fantastic support in the press, from great reviews to major features to TV appearances to year-end lists. Their live shows also played a huge part in building Shovels & Rope’s reputation among audiences and peers – the latter of whom voted the duo in for the 2013 Americana Music Awards, of which they won Emerging Artist of the Year and Song of the Year for “Birmingham”.

Swimmin’ Time is the follow up to O’ Be Joyful and features 13 new songs that maintain a subtle aquatic theme throughout. New sounds, instruments and characters are introduced in progression while the signature Shovels & Rope songcraft and kindle that fans have come to adore is maintained, albeit a little darker. Swimmin’ Time was recorded in the band’s Charleston, SC home studio and produced by Trent.

Sometimes epic failures produce epic results. With the release of her new album I Will Not Be Afraid, keen-eyed young singer-songwriter Caroline Rose has broken her long string of short-circuits with a live-wire national debut that draws on her roots in rockabilly, vintage country and blues to capture her unique and personal vision. She describes the 11 songs on I Will Not Be Afraid as “postcards I’ve picked up from along the road,” and she means that literally. Rose is in perpetual motion. She tours and lives in her van, traveling the highways and back roads to fuel her creative spirit.

Tickets for this general admission standing room only show go on sale this Friday, October 24 at 10 a.m. Tickets will be available for purchase at the Ponte Vedra Concert Hall and St. Augustine Amphitheatre Box Offices, ticketmaster.com, all Ticketmaster outlets and by phone at (800) 745-3000.
