Sunshine Bus Company Introduces New Route

A new bus route serving Vilano Beach and St. Augustine South is announced by Sunshine Bus Company.

“This is the first change in our schedule in five years,” says George Hesson, bus company manager. “Along with extending the route we are adding a second bus that will be operating on the same route with our existing one. This will increase the frequency of operation. We are hoping this will increase convenience for current riders and also encourage new riders to try our services.”

The new route will leave from Seabridge Square, U.S. 1, head south to Wildwood Drive, travel the store fronts in the Publix Plaza and then through the major streets of St. Augustine South, exit and stop at Flagler Hospital and then continue north to May Street and the north entrance to the Vilano Beach Publix.

The Sunshine Bus Company, the only form of public transportation in St. Johns County, began in May 2000 as a partnership between the Council on Aging and the St. Johns County Board of County Commissioners.  Today the system serves seven routes, and Hesson reports he expects the ridership for 2015 to total somewhere around 270,000 passengers. The Sunshine Bus Company is available to riders of all ages. There are monthly bus passes and discounts for seniors and students. For information call 904-209-3716 or visit
