UPDATE: The Romanza Dance Kaleidoscope list of dance groups has been updated. Aerial Athletes and Freddick Bratcher & Company will perform. Arthur Murray Dance Studio and Sally Walton’s River House Dancers will not be a part of the event.

St. Augustine, FL — Ballet, tap, and Spanish dance styles will come together during St. Augustine’s Romanza Festivale of the Arts, an event that celebrates 450 years of culture in the nation’s oldest city.

From May 8-17, more than 100 events and exhibits will include music and dance performances, concerts, art shows, dramatic productions, tours, and much more at locations throughout the city. Many events are free; admission is required for others

ROMANZA DANCE KALEIDOSCOPE

The Art of DANCE in St. Augustine! This event is a fun, eclectic sampling of the art of dance as practiced in the St. Augustine region. Performers run the gamut from the highly professional tap dancers of Noise Complaint Live and professional ballroom dancers to skilled, talented students from public and private institutions engaged in the preparation of future professionals and to those equally skilled and talented who dance exclusively to nurture their bodies and souls.  This program is symbolic of how thoroughly dance is entrenched in our sense of community, our sense of self, and our artistic life in St. Augustine.

PETER PAN: BALLET PRESENTED BY THE SAINT AUGUSTINE BALLET

  • May 16 @ 2:30 and 7 p.m.
  • Lewis Auditorium at Flagler College, 14 Granada St., downtown St. Augustine

Almost everyone knows and loves the James M. Barrie tale of Peter Pan. It’s the story about growing up that never grows old. Saint Augustine Ballet is excited to present The Ballet of Peter Pan, directed by Luis Abella, on May 16 in Lewis Auditorium with shows at 2:30 and 7 p.m.

The production features the talents of 40 local dancers from 20 area schools.

Saint Augustine Ballet’s guest artists will be the Cuban trained, world-class dancers, Margit Vargas Rodriguez and Daet Rodriguez. Local celebrity pirate, Captain William Mayhem, will be making a special appearance as Captain Hook.

Tapping their way into the production will be “Noise Complaint,” Florida’s premiere professional tap ensemble, led by their lead dancer/choreographer, Jenne Vermes. Tracy Nunnally, the owner and president of Hall Associates Flying Effects, will be in charge of creating the flying sequences for the show, as the characters fly to Neverland.

GATHERING OF FRIENDS: A CHILDREN’S ARTS FESTIVAL

A Gathering of Friends: Children’s Arts Festivale” will be held at the Amphitheatre.  This free interactive event will take place rain or shine. Under the guidance of members of the arts community, children will engage in art projects, dance, sing, try out a variety of musical instruments, play historical games and listen to story telling.
