Four restaurants earned multiple honors Nov. 1 during the 31st annual Great Chowder Debate. Sponsored by the Conch House Marina Resort and the St. Augustine Shrine Club, the yearly event raises money for the Shriners Children’s Hospital. Nearly 35 restaurants entered chowders this year in four categories: Minorcan Clam, Minorcan Conch, New England Clam and Seafood Chowder. Winner of the fifth category – People’s Choice, was to be determined at the close of the noon to 4 p.m. debate. The amount of the donation to the hospital will also be announced after final tabulations. Last year more than $38,000 was donated.
Attendance this year was estimated at between 3,500 and 4,000.
