May 22: The Wizard of Oz on stage by Saint Augustine Ballet

Follow the yellow brick road. Saint Augustine Ballet presents the Wizard of Oz during two performances on Saturday, May 22, 2021 in Lewis Auditorium at Flagler College, 14 Granada St., downtown St. Augustine. Show times are 1:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. Tickets are available at saintaugustineballet.com, with social distanced seating.

Young Dorothy Gale, played by local high school student Jolynne Waldner, and her dog Toto are swept away from their Kansas farm and plopped down in an otherworldly place called Oz. She offends one witch, is befriended by another and, after collecting a trio of oddball sidekicks, heads off to the Emerald City so the all-powerful Wizard of Oz can help her go home.

Luis Abella, Artistic Director of Saint Augustine Ballet, selected the cast of local dancers who attend schools throughout St. Augustine and St. Johns County, from ages 8 to 18.

“We are so excited to be able to present the Wizard of Oz to the community during this difficult time,” Abella said. “Artistic expression is so incredibly important, and we are thrilled to share these performances with our audiences.”

Don’t miss seeing the dancing Scarecrow, the Cowardly Lion, The Tin Man, Glinda, Auntie Em, a handful of Munchkins, Monkeys, and Poppies — and dancers depicting farm animals!
