Fireworks Over the Matanzas, the annual fireworks display in downtown St. Augustine, began at 9:30 p.m. Saturday, July 4 in celebration of U.S.A.’s Independence Day. The 20-plus minute fireworks spectacular was orchestrated to recorded music which was heard throughout the downtown streets.

Totally St. Augustine decided to watch the fireworks this year from a different vantage point — the grounds of the Mission Nombre de Dios, where the Great Cross stands, which was built for St. Augustine’s 400th birthday. This year, the City of St. Augustine celebrates 450 years.
