Hangar One Bistro at St. Augustine Airport to be featured on a German reality TV show

On Saturday, June 6, Hangar One Bistro will be celebrating a Grand Reopening to commemorate the restaurant’s reopening after regulatory restrictions due to the Coronavirus closed their doors. This special event will be filmed by crews from the “Goodbye Deutschland” reality TV show broadcasted on the Vox Network in Germany.

Hangar One Bistro Airport Eatery & Bar opened their doors on February 29th, 2020, just weeks before having to shut down due to COVID-19. “It has been a rough go, we were off to a great start and then shortly after we were forced to close our doors due to the virus,” says owner Rainer Pereira Da Silva.

Rainer runs the restaurant with his husband, Calebe Pereira Da Silva, along with his other business, Florida Flyers Flight Academy, Inc, a St. Augustine-based international flight school that trains pilots from around the world. “Both businesses have taken a huge hit, it has certainly been a challenge to keep up with all the uncertainty.”

For the past two years, Rainer has been the subject of a reality television series called Goodbye Deutschland! on Vox, the #2 network in Germany. The show features adventures in emigration, telling the stories of people living in their desired new country. For Pereira Da Silva, this journey has taken him from Germany to St. Augustine, Florida where he has opened two successful local businesses.

Now the spotlight has turned to showcase St. Augustine’s very own Hangar One Bistro. The show will follow him on his journey through the challenges of opening a new restaurant in the midst of a global pandemic and feature his life here in the United States as he navigates the turbulent current affairs.

On Saturday, June 6th, Hangar One Bistro will be celebrating a Grand Reopening to commemorate the restaurant’s next chapter following the virus and their introduction into the Florida culinary scene. The restaurant will be closed for lunch for a private event held for local officials and press from 2pm – 4pm. They will open to the public at 5:00pm for dinner, reservations are suggested.

For the grand reopening, thousands of biodegradable balloons (2,653 to be exact) and custom installations done by local St. Augustine business, Hennessy Events will decorate the space, transforming it into a balloon-filled wonderland. “We are looking to blow you away. It is guaranteed to be a showstopper,” says Pereira Da Silva.

Camera crews will be documenting the events leading up to the reopening, as well as the event itself.
