March 5-7: ‘Bright Star’ staged by St. Johns County Center for the Arts

Written by Steve Martin and Edie Brickell, the musical is brought to life by 60+ students in the Musical Theatre Department at St. Augustine High School

St. Augustine, FL —  The St. Johns County Center for the Arts  Musical Theatre program is proud to be performing the heartfelt musical, “Bright Star,” written and composed by Steve Martin and Edie Brickell. It is set in the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina in 1945 with flashbacks to 1923.

Bright Star is on stage at 7 p.m. March 5-7 at St. Augustine High School, 3205 Varella Ave. Tickets are $20 for VIP seating; $15.00 for adults; and $10.00 for students. Tickets are available in advance at showtix4u.com, and will be available at the door prior to each performance. See the cast and crew list below.

Directed by Jeff Dodd, the musical is inspired by their Grammy-winning collaboration on the 2013 bluegrass album Love Has Come for You and, in turn, the folk story of the Iron Mountain Baby.

THE STORY

When literary editor Alice Murphy meets a young soldier just home from World War II, he awakens her longing for the child she once lost.

Haunted by their unique connection, Alice sets out on a journey to understand her past—and what she finds has the power to transform both of their lives. With beautiful melodies and powerfully moving characters, the story unfolds as a rich tapestry of deep emotion.

An uplifting theatrical journey that holds you tightly in its grasp, BRIGHT STAR is as refreshingly genuine as it is daringly hopeful.
