Gaufres & Goods, 9 Aviles St., in historic St. Augustine offers Greek and Polish specialties. It’s name, Gaufres, means waffle. And the eatery serves something called a sugar waffle (handmade and fluffy) with all sorts of toppings including fresh fruit and handmade whipped cream.

The family owned and operated restaurant is located on the oldest street in the U.S. (Aviles Street) and offers a varied menu including Ola’s pierogies, 7 spices mussels, Greek salads and spinach pie, imported beer, ice cream and milk shakes and even ice cold bottled sodas.

On our visit we tried a Greek salad, spinach pie and stuffed grape leaves, the mussels and strawberries and cream for dessert. The salad and fruit were fresh, the Greek food was tasty, and the mussels were AMAZING! For those with small children, bowls of diced fruit are available as well.

The place isn’t large, but it does hold 5-6 tables which offers seating for 2 to 5 people per table.

Hours are 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday through Thursday ; and 9:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday and Saturday.
