North City St. Augustine just got a whole lot sweeter!

Creme de la Cocoa has opened in a new location, at 299 San Marco Ave., St. Augustine … just across the street from its former location at DOS Coffee & Wine, 300 San Marco Ave.

S’mores macarons at Creme de la Cocoa

Chef Nils Rowland and his wife Bailey offer handmade chocolates, marshmallows (asked for one toasted!), specialty desserts, cookies, brownies, oatmeal cream pies, and macarons, as well as custom cakes for any special occasion.

The goodies are created by Chef Nils and Chef Caitlin Schneider-Frantz.

For those with gluten allergies, desserts that are gluten free are marked with a GF.

The new location has a huge marble island in the center of the building, which features all the sweets under pretty glass dessert globes.

The chocolates sit directly on the marble, and Chef Nils explained that it helps to keep them cooler.

My three daughters and I tried the Milk & Cereal Marshmallow, which brought me back to my childhood — remember Fruity Pebbles? Well, this is the grown up version of the breakfast favorite!

IMG_3349 IMG_3346We also sampled the Vanilla Marshmallow, which was “toasted” with a handheld torch by Bailey (see the photos on the right). DELICIOUS! All the toasted marshmallow flavor, served on a stick, minus the mess! No hot, smokey fire! A summertime favorite, enjoyed indoors in the AC!

We also tried the Strawberry Shortcake shooter, a smaller version of a classic dessert, and it’s definitely not your average shortcake.

We enjoyed our selections in the Dessert Gallery inside the shop, which includes two tables and seating for up to 16 guests.

The Dessert Gallery has seating for up to 16 guests inside Creme de la Cocoa.

Creme de la Cocoa also makes desserts for local restaurants and resorts in St. Augustine and Jacksonville. The sweet shoppe also specializes in desserts and cakes for weddings and other special events.

And with the new location, private parties and classes will be offered. Go to cremedelacocoa.com for more details on upcoming events.
