Music, Visual Arts, and Arts Education Projects in St. Johns County Receive Grants from the St. Johns Cultural Council

ST. JOHNS COUNTY, FL — The St. Johns Cultural Council is pleased to announce the recipients of the Fall 2024 State of the Arts (SOTA) Grants.  These grants, presented annually, are available through funds raised by the sale of “State of the Arts” specialty license plates and have provided more than $150,000 of support to arts organizations and individual artists in St. Johns County. The most recent grantees are:

  • St. Augustine Pipe Band – This SOTA grant provides funding for free classes and equipment for ages 10 and up. Students will learn to play traditional Scottish bagpipes and drums.
  • Friends of the St. Augustine Amphitheatre – SOTA funds supportscholarships for low-income and underserved students to attend FOSAA Art and Music Summer Camps in 2025.
  • Artist Cultural Education (ACE) Arts Program – During the school year, ACE will hold weekly art sessions for at-risk primary school children led by professional artists and teachers in their specialty medium.
  • Saint Johns Classical Guitar Ensemble – Classical guitarists will teach guitar, meet for a rehearsal once a week, and perform two or more concerts for the local community. Players will be grouped into three or more parts that will be played in unison by the entire ensemble, similar to a chamber orchestra.
  • Art Box Gallery’s Emerging Artist Program – The Emerging Artist Program was established in January 2024 to provide opportunities for artists who faced barriers to gallery representation. This SOTA grant will allow underrepresented and financially constrained artists to showcase their work in a professional gallery setting. For a 3-month period, four emerging artists will receive assistance with wall space rental, marketing, signage, promotion, and administration.
  • Lullaby of the Rivers Festival – SOTA grant funds will expand the festival’s educational component to raise awareness of the benefits of nature and threats to the environment through storytelling.

The 2024 SOTA recipients will be honored at the annual Holiday Open House at The Waterworks, 184 San Marco Avenue, on Thursday, December 10 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m.  This event is free and open to the public.
