Nov. 12: Battle of the Datil charity event at Tringali Barn in St. Augustine

Presented by Ancient City Entertainment, this spicy event will raise money for local veterans

Bring your best datil pepper recipe — and an appetite for spicy cuisine — to the First Annual Battle of the Datil! This inaugural event will take place from 2-9 p.m. November 12 at Tringali Barn at Heritage Farms, 7310 US Highway 1 South, St. Augustine.

Presented by Ancient City Entertainment, Battle of the Datil will benefit Rise Up for Veterans Program at HorsePlay Therapy Center, a local charity supporting veterans in need through equine therapy.

“I’ve worked alongside HorsePlay Therapy Center for many years now,” said Chris Shee, owner of Tringali Barn at Heritage Farms. “The work they do with handicapped children is unmatched. Their new program, Rise Up Veterans Program, focuses on helping disabled veterans and those needing therapy. To be a part of an event that shines a light on their incredible work is an honor. I can’t wait to see St. Johns County come together for an unforgettable day of fun while helping those in need. All of the net proceeds will be donated to Rise Up.”

Grab your friends, family, and neighbors for an all-day Concert & Cookoff celebration in honor of St. Augustine’s favorite pepper, the Datil. This family-friendly event will include raffles, special giveaways, local vendors, a full cash bar, and one heated competition to find the best Datil recipe in town. Taste your way through various categories, including Best Datil Sauce, Best Datil Salsa, Best Datil Dessert, Best Datil Tapas, Best Datil Drink, and Best Datil Freestyle, to see who wins it all.

Participating datil purveyors include Minorcan Mike’s, Cowgill’s Hot Sauce, Amici Italian Restaurant house datil sauce, The Press house datil sauce, Cocka-Datil-Doo, and more. This event will also feature live music by The Space Heaters, Chillula, Paper City Hustlers, Dewey Via Band, and Annie Dukes.

“I’m thrilled to bring this event to life,” explained Jeanetta Cebollero, owner of Ancient City Entertainment and the festival organizer. “Having our community come together to enjoy a day of music, food, and festivities is a feeling like no other, but benefitting our local veterans is icing on the cake. I hope to see everyone come out to help us kick off this inaugural event and I can’t wait to see the turnout.”
