Daily through March 6: Organized by students of Flagler College, In Our Glory: Black Joy in Jim Crow St. Augustine explores the spaces of resistance and opposition, inspired by photography. The Fort Mose Jazz & Blues Series
February 10-19: The Fort Mose Jazz & Blues Series will return to Fort Mose Historic State Park, the site of the first legally sanctioned free African settlement in what is now the United States, from February 10 to February 19, 2023. The second installment of the series will comprise of six unforgettable performances by some of the most recognized jazz, blues, R&B, and soul artists in the industry. In a continued effort to honor the history and historical significance of the site, the Fort Mose Jazz & Blues Series 2023 will welcome 10-time Grammy Award-winner, and “Empress of Soul,” Gladys Knight, three-time Grammy Awardwinning soul, gospel, and R&B national treasure Mavis Staples, eight-time Grammy Award-winning bassist, composer, and bandleader Christian McBride’s New Jawn, the “future of blues” Mississippi-born, and Grammy Award-winning guitarist Christone “Kingfish” Ingram, two-time Grammy Award-winning eclectic folk singer, songwriter, and multiinstrumentalist Rhiannon Giddens, and the critically-acclaimed, Grammy Award-nominated Americana singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist Valerie June. 38th annual Cathedral Festival
February 24-26: The 38th annual Cathedral Festival will take place Feb. 24-26 on grounds of the Mission Nombre de Dios, off San Marco Avenue in uptown St. Augustine.The fundraiser is one of the area’s largest festivals featuring rides, games, bingo, a silent auction and a fireworks spectacular show. February 25-26: The Ancient City Cat Club presents the annual Ancient City Cat Show from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. February 25-26 at the Solomon Calhoun Community Center, 1300 Duval Street, St. Augustine. February 25: The 30th anniversary of Chocolate and Beyond, a celebration of chocolate, desserts, and other delectable culinary treats, will be held from 2-4 p.m.Saturday, February 25 at The Classic Car Museum of St. Augustine. Guests will sample tasty treats from some of the area’s finest restaurants and specialty shops, and tickets will include a tour of the museum. A silent auction and contests will also be part of this fun and exciting afternoon. This event is hosted by TASK – Teacher’s Aid for Student Knowledge. Proceeds from Chocolate and Beyond are utilized to support RSVP of St. Johns County as they recruit, train, and recognize senior volunteers, as well as local teachers as they receive special project grants. Through March 19: Limelight Theatre stages The Diviners February 24-March 19. This play is the story of a disturbed young man and his friendship with a disenchanted preacher in southern Indiana in the early 1930s. When the boy was young he almost drowned. This trauma, and the loss of his mother in the same accident, has left him deathly afraid of water. When the preacher finally gets the boy in the river to wash him, the townspeople mistake the scene for a baptism. What unfolds is a harrowing event that rocks the town forever. Sylvia by A Classic Theatre
March 3-11: A Classic Theatre presents Sylvia by A.R. Gurney, a very human comedy involving a man in mid-life crisis, his beleaguered wife and the sassy, lively and insightful dog he rescues. Or does she rescue him? Sylvia is a funny, poignant, reflective look at ourselves and the importance of the bonds that keep us grounded. Since Sylvia is a rescued dog, it seemed a good fit to collaborate with the local rescue organization SAFE (Saving Animals from Euthanasia) to highlight the need for saving animals from dire circumstances. Searle’s Raid Encampment & Re-enactment
March 3-4: Experience a reenactment of the bloody pirate raid led by Robert Searle against the city and inhabitants of St. Augustine in 1668. On Friday, March 3 the encampment will begin set up at the Oldest House Museum Complex, 14 St. Francis St., St. Augustine. Hours are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday, March 4; and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, March 4, with historic 17th-century encampment with activities and demonstrations. The battle reenactment takes place from 4-6 p.m. at the field near the Visitors Center, on Orange St. across from Ann O’Malley’s.
Saint Augustine Film Festival – Part Deux
March 3-5: The 13th Annual Saint Augustine Film Festival: Part Deux will run March 3-5 in Lewis Auditorium and Gamache-Koger Theater at Flagler College in St. Augustine, Florida. 32 films will screen over those three days. Special Guests: SAFF Part Deux welcomes several filmmakers who will introduce their films. Hope Madden, writer/director of OBSTACLE CORPSE will be joined by producer George Wolf. The writer/producer of DOG WHISPERER, Melissa Jo Peltier, will follow the screening with a talk on producing documentaries. Flagler College grad Ryan Buffa, now a producer of THE WALKING DEAD, will show her film SWEETHEART and will appear by Zoom to talk about Making It In The Biz After College. Menorcan Heritage Celebration
March 4: Join the Menorcan Cultural Society from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday, March 4 at the Oldest House Museum Complex to commemorate the 246th anniversary of the Menorcans arriving in Florida. Live music by Sam Pacetti, along with heritage events such as mullet net-making and cast net demonstrations by Mike Usina; Menorcan merchandise such as T-shirts, bumper stickers, and flags; Datil pepper sauces, jellies, and mustard by Kenny & Sylvia Johns; and Datil pepper plants for sale by Leslie Baker Case. March 11-12: The St. Augustine Celtic Music & Heritage Festival is held in America’s Oldest Celtic City with multi-award-winning cultural events to be held on Saturday, March 11 and Sunday, March 12.

Minorcan Heritage Month Talk at Ximenez-Fatio House

140th St. Ambrose Spring Fair
March 26: The 140th annual St. Ambrose Spring Fair will be held from noon to 4 p.m. Sunday, March 26, 2023 at St. Ambrose Catholic Church and grounds, 6070 Church Road, in Elkton, from State Road 207. This is St. Johns County’s oldest fair! St. Ambrose Catholic Church will celebrate 150 years in 2024.
HISTORY: Catholic Mass was first celebrated with settlers in a barn on this site in the early 1800s. In 1875, St. Ambrose Parish was established when a small wood frame church was built by Father Stephen Langlade, a skilled carpenter from France. By 1907 he had also built a rectory, school, convent, and a larger church.
The organizers will be preparing extra food since they sold out last year to record crowds!
The most popular item at the fair is the Minorcan clam chowder, prepared by Mary Ellen Masters and her chowder crew, which features the famous Datil pepper and a recipe that has been passed down from generation to generation. More than 160 gallons are made for each fair in the spring and in the fall — and it all sells out every time!
Other menu items include pulled pork dinners, French fries, hot dogs and hamburgers, cheeseburgers, boiled peanuts, homemade desserts, ice cream, soda, water, and beer. An ATM will be on site. Admission is FREE.
Live music by local band Chillula, hay rides, antique cars by the St. Augustine Cruisers, children’s games, tours of the historic church, a bake sale, a yard sale, a 50/50 drawing, and silent auction also are part of the event.

Pecha Kucha 10th Anniversary
April 5: The Volume 17 event on April 5th will take place on the Front Porch at the St. Augustine Amphitheater, 1340C A1A South, St. Augustine. April 9: The Annual Easter Promenade celebrates the Easter holiday, St. Augustine history and the local community. This event is sponsored by the Easter Festival Committee and is held from 1 to 2:30 p.m. Sunday, April 9 at the gazebo in the Plaza de la Constitución. The promenade is a spectacle of outrageous Easter bonnets and festive Easter costumes. Awards are presented in various categories, including Most Creative Hat, Best Dressed Pet, Prettiest Hat, Best Dressed Couple, Best Dressed Man and Woman, Best Dressed Boy and Girl, Largest Family and Family from Farthest Away. Prizes will be handed out at the end of the judging. Anyone is welcome to participate in the contests. Last year, more than $3,000 in prizes were awarded, such as boat trips, hotel stays and restaurant dinners for two. These prizes are donated by local merchants and businesses. Admission is FREE.
Crescent Beach Easter Sunrise Service
April 9: The Crescent Beach Easter Sunrise Service will be hosted by Crescent Beach Baptist Church at 7 a.m. Sunday, April 9. at the Crescent Beach ramp, 45 Cubbedge Road, St. Augustine Beach. The service includes scripture readings, a spiritual message, and a breathtaking view of the sunrise over the Atlantic. Visitors are encouraged to arrive early and to bring a folding chair.
PoetFest 2023
April 14-15: “Beat Poetry: Florida and Beyond” will be the theme of the 2nd Annual St. Augustine PoetFest scheduled for April 14-15. A kickoff open mic will be held the night at 7 PM April 14. Jack Kerouac, a pioneer of the Beat Generation, was living in College Park when he found out that his novel “On the Road” had become a bestseller. A decade later, in 1969, Kerouac died in a St. Petersburg hospital, located in the same city where he owned a home. At press time, Lucas County Poet Laureate Jonie McIntire (Toledo, Ohio) will attend the St. Augustine PoetFest, where she will present a seminar titled “The Feminine Voice.”
Not only did Jonie McIntire act in Toledo, Ohio, for nearly ten years in an annual reader’s theater presentation of “Back to Jack”, written completely from the words and works of Jack Kerouac, but she is not afraid to hit the road to connect the Midwest to the East Coast. “I believe, like Jack did, that the road must eventually lead to the whole world,” said McIntire, about traveling to St. Augustine in April.
Saturday’s day-long festival on the campus of Flagler College will begin at 8 AM with a guided meditation walk at the CEAM labyrinth to get everyone in the “write mood.”

April 14-15: JJ Grey’s Blackwater Sol Revue, a two-day music festival at The St. Augustine Amphitheatre with camping options available at Anastasia State Park, returns to St. Augustine! Presented by St. Johns County Cultural Events Division in partnership with Friends of Anastasia State Park, Blackwater Sol Revue combines soul, rock, and blues in a way that naturally comes together. Marjorine Kinnan Rawlings Conference
April 28-30: The St. Johns Cultural Council, the organization that promotes arts, culture and heritage in St. Augustine, has announced that the Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings Society’s 34th Annual Conference will be held in St. Augustine on April 28-30, 2023. The Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings Society honors the memory and celebrates the life and work of the Pulitzer Prize-winning author through annual meetings throughout Florida in locations relevant to Rawlings’ literature and locale. Rawlings owned a second home in Crescent Beach and she, along with her husband Norton Sanford Baskin, owned the Castle Warden Hotel in St. Augustine. The weekend kicks off with presentations on Rawlings’ life, including a lecture on her life in St. Augustine, and a trolley tour of the residences of writers who called St. Augustine home led by historian David Nolan. A wine and cheese reception followed by a banquet, featuring historian Gary Mormino as the keynote speaker on his latest books and studies of Florida, will be held Friday evening. Saturday’s events will include a discussion led by four-time Emmy-award winning journalist Bob Kealing, who will give a presentation about The Beatles in 1960s Florida. Saturday will conclude with a scenic river cruise of the Matanzas River. The weekend will also offer visitors a chance to see a production of the never-before produced short play Color Struck, writtenby Rawlings’ friend and fellow author Zora Neale Hurston. Every Friday & Saturday through January: Magic Hideaway, a boutique two-hour magic experience, is offered by Magician Bill Abbott each Saturday evening at the iconic Casa Monica Resort & Spa, Autograph Collection. Once guests have arrived at the Casa Monica, they choose from a menu of complimentary magic-themed welcome cocktails to enjoy in the opulent Cobalt Lounge with exclusive access to the VIP area where Bill Abbott will entertain with pre-show sleight of hand magic before everyone is ushered by House Manager Rebecca Abbott into the Magic Hideaway showroom. Styled after a vintage jazz club, the showroom is a 22-seat venue featuring glowing crystal balls, Moroccan chandelier, majestic palms, and carefully-arranged seating so everyone is within touching distance of the magic.
