The St. Augustine Art Association will unveil the new TOUCH St. Augustine Braille Trail on Thursday, Oct. 9. The public is invited to gather by the Pedro Menendez statue at the Lightner Museum gardens at 3 p.m. for a brief ceremony, followed by a trolley tour around the Plaza to view the trail’s Braille markers at the five historic statues in downtown St. Augustine.
The tour will conclude with a reception and Art Garden groundbreaking at the St. Augustine Art Association, where the 13th Annual Tactile Art Show, an exhibit of touchable art, is on display for Art Beyond Sight Awareness Month.
TOUCH St. Augustine stands for Tactile Orientation for Understanding Creativity and History. This 450th public art accessibility project for the blind was developed by the St. Augustine Art Association in partnership with Florida School for the Deaf and the Blind, the City of St. Augustine, Flagler College and the Cathedral Basilica through grants from the Community Foundation Crisp-Ellert Fund and Beta Sigma Phi.
