Tango Down Shooting Complex is Jacksonville’s first public shooting range (no membership fees) located at 18811 Maxville MacClenny Hwy, in Jacksonville, Florida. Free parking is available on site.
Tango Down is the nation’s first Black-owned gun range, owned and operated by Rick Ferrell, a retired Army officer. Ferrell was written about in April 2024 by the Jacksonville Free Press for holding the Woman Warrior Seminar in March, a workshop that is part of the complex’s ongoing commitment to building and supporting women as agents of their own safety and protection.
Tango Down Shooting Complex is an ultimate shooting and training destination, featuring pistol bays, long-range lanes, multi-purpose bays and competition bays. A Pro Shop includes ammo, firearms and gear, along with firearms rentals, limited gunsmithing and customizations. Available training courses include vehicle defense tactics; a comprehensive pistol course; concealed carry — tactics and techniques; shooting and moving in the home (S.M.I.T.H.); and precision rifle.
“I chose this event to coincide with the creation of gunpowder in the year 904AD … ok, I can’t resist: DUUUUUUUUUUVVVVVVAAAALLLL,” Rick Ferrell joked.
“Originally our planning team entertained having the event on 9-04-2024, however, it’s a Wednesday and too close to Labor Day activities, so we will have to wait until 2027, when 9-04 is a Saturday,” Rick Ferrell explained. “As for the jump, we wanted to do something no one else had done, and we wanted it to be something that was closely related to shooting.”
