March is Minorcan Heritage Month in St. Augustine, Florida. Here are some FREE events at area historic attractions:
The Minorcan Experience will host an art exhibit on Saturday, March 4 at the Oldest House Museum Complex during the Menorcan Heritage Celebration. Meet artists and view their artwork, and take an original masterpiece home with you — with many items available for purchase! In conjunction, the Menorcan Heritage Celebration will take place from 11 AM to 3 PM Saturday, March 4 on the grounds of the Oldest House Museum Complex. Admission is free.
The Minorcan Experience will also host other FREE community events in March, including the a walking tour of the San Lorenzo Cemetery on March 11. This Minorcan burials tour will be led by Elizabeth Duran Gesser, the Florida Humanities Council grant historian. Please email theminorcanexperience@gmail.com to register.
On March 18, visit the Ximenez-Fatio House Museum at 2 p.m. and hear the story of Ryan Brennan’s recent 3-day walk from New Smyrna to St. Augustine — the same walk taken in 1777 by Minorcan, Greek and Italian indentured settlers.
On March 25 at 2 p.m., The Anastasia Island Branch Library will host a talk by author Ryan Saxon, who will discuss his books, “A Tour of St. Augustine: History, Food and Culture, A Minorcan Perspective” and “Maria’s Secret Ingredient,” a Minorcan children’s book. Both books will be available for purchase and signing.
